Swarovski Lighting Evolution


1895 Daniel Swarovski founds the company in Wattens, Tyrol, with the vision of bringing joy to people through crystal. His guiding principle is still followed by the company today: «To constantly improve what is good.»	1956 Swarovski develops the «Aurora Borealis» effect, a shimmering finish that enhances the sparkle of cut crystal. None other than Christian Dior introduces «Aurora Borealis» to haute couture.	1965 The first Swarovski crystals for chandeliers and lighting are launched, and in 1977 are registered under the STRASS® Swarovski Crystal name. Today they adorn classical chandeliers, such as those in the Palace of Versailles and the Metropolitan Opera, New York, as well as modern lighting designs.	1977 The first Swarovski jewelry collection is launched. Today, the Swarovski premium line incorporates jewelry, accessories, and decorative crystal objects.

Passionate collectors now have a home – the Swarovski Crystal Society is formed.Today, the association is made up of around 300,000 members in 120 countries.	2002 Swarovski Crystal Palace is a sensational collaboration between Nadja Swarovski and world-class designers. It gathers the brightest minds such as Tord Boontje and Tom Dixon to realize their visions and set new standards in lighting design.	2007 Schonbek becomes part of the Swarovski group. Based in Plattsburgh, New York, the company was founded in Bohemia in 1870 and is the world market leader in the premium crystal chandelier sector.	2011 Swarovski consolidates its decorative finished lighting product lines, design and manufacturing into one globally unified operation: Swarovski Lighting. It includes "Custom Lighting Solutions" at Swarovski Lighting, a team of experienced in-house lighting designers and engineers specializing in the custom modification of its two premium crystal lighting brands, Swarovski and Schonbek, for luxury living.
